‘Nurdles’ are small plastic balls used to produce plastic ware and 40 tonnes of these small round ‘balls’ were spilled from a container in the Durban harbour and have now also reached our beaches!
Marine animals see it as food and die an unnatural and untimely death because their digestive systems can not digest it.
If and when you see it on the beaches, please contact Miranda Panda (Tel: 071 234 9114) and let her know where you’ve seen it and how bad the situation is.
Stilbaai’s ‘neighbours’, Gouritsmond, is quite badly affected. The local coffee shop, Koffie Stories, is offering a Sunday meal for every 500ml bottle filled with ‘nurdles’ and brought in. According to the Facebook page of S.M.A.R.T. (Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team) Mossel Bay, one should not dispose of these ‘nurdles’, but rather get it to a drop-off point where the Department of Environmental Affairs will collect it. There is no collection point at Stilbaai yet, but it can be dropped off at Koffie Stories in Gouritsmond. For more information, send a WhatsApp to 072 227 4715.

Die ‘Tafel van Vrede’, die langste tafel wat in Rooipitjieweg in Melkhoutfontein vir ‘n duisend gaste gedek word, vind weer Donderdag, 30 November om 18:00 plaas.
Dié geleentheid word vir die derde agtereenvolgende jaar weer deur Badisa Stilbaai, die Stilbaai SAPD en Ouma Lena se Huis van stapel gestuur en indien dié inisiatief weer so goed soos laas jaar ondersteun word, behoort in die omgewing van ‘n duisend mense dié ete by te woon.
Kaartjies vir vanjaar se geselligheid is by bogenoemde organisasies beskikbaar en kos R20pp.
Dit is nie al nie – Vrydagaand (1 Desember) tree die Afrikaanse hip-hop-kunstenaar, HemelBesem oftewel Simon Witbooi, in die Melkhoutfontein gemeenskapsaal op. Lees meer oor dié gewilde kunstenaar . Kaartjies vir sy optrede kos R20 per persoon – wees daar!
Die ‘Lang Tafel van Vrede’ is voorwaar ‘n vrolike geleentheid om by te woon en lekker saam te kuier.

The main beach at Lappiesbaai in Stilbaai is the place to be this weekend (25 and 26 November) when between 20 and 30 teams will be in action in the waves with their inflatable boats (rubberducks).
This is the second round of the Western Province Regional Championship and the last big event before the gruelling 30th Trans Agulhas Inflatable boat challenge that will visit Stilbaai on 29 December as part of their 700km / 5 day race between Pettenberg Bay and Fish Hoek.
On Saturday, the competition will be in the waves at Lappiesbaai between 9:00 and 15:00 and on Sunday the teams will compete in the ‘Long Haul Competition’ that starts at 9:00 at Lappiesbaai from where they will do a 130km distance before returning to Lappiesbaai.
Stilbaai’s current World Champion of the Waves, Raynor Becker and his co-driver, Hugo Erasmus, will also be in action.

‘Die Blou Seekat’ het vastrapplek in Stilbaai-Oos gevind en het onlangs sy deure oopgemaak om kliënte te verwelkom.
Dié ‘nuwe’ drankwinkel, die enigste aan die oostekant van Stilbaai, is perfek geleë langs die kafee in Hoofweg-Oos by die eerste stopstraat en is in die hande van Adolf Botes en Johannie Vermeulen wat bekend geword het vir hul groot verskeidenheid uitgesoekte wyne, boetiekbier en spesiaal-vervaardigde gin by hul wynboetiek, Stilbaai Kelders, in Voortrekkerstraat in Stilbaai-Wes.
“Ons wil deur middel van Die Blou Seekat-drankwinkel aan kliënte in Stilbaai-Oos dieselfde diens lewer as wat ons by Stilbaai Kelders doen alhoewel ons vanweë die beperkte ruimte ongelukkig nie dieselfde hoeveelheid voorraad, en veral wyn, daar kan aanhou nie,” sê Botes.
Kopers sal egter aangenaam verras wees deur die hoeveelheid en verskeidenheid produkte in die nuwe winkel en die Blou Seekat is gereed vir die vakansiebesoekers. Kliënte wat uit meer as 700 wyne wil kan kies en sommer verdere aankope doen terwyl hulle in die weste is, kan Stilbaai Kelders besoek terwyl diégene wat nié oor die brug gaan nie, wel die ander gewilde produkte by Die Blou Seekat sal kry.
Ys is ook hier beskikbaar terwyl gesuiwerde water binnekort ook hiér getap sal kan word. Ander dienste wat dié twee winkels lewer, is die verhuring van glase vir funksies asook kroegdienste terwyl daar ‘n groot verskeidenheid geskenke by Stilbaai Kelders is om van te kies. Daar sal gedurende Desember ook weer gereelde wynproegeleenthede en ander promosies by Stilbaai Kelders aangebied word terwyl promosies ook vir Die Blou Seekat beplan word.
‘Die Blou Seekat’ is daagliks (behalwe Sondae) oop van 9:00 tot 18:00 en tot 20:00 gedurende Desember.
