Good morning, Stilbaai!

Look who peeped through the bedroom window of Kirsty Boyle, owner of Charlotte House Guest House  situated on the verge of the Skulpiesbaai Nature Reserve in Stilbaai West. These owls have made their next on the balcony of the house and have been living here for several years now.
Owls are still regularly seen in Stilbaai.

A LITTLE MIST OVER THE BAY

Winter time in Stilbaai is a very special time…
The rain is always welcome as are the bright and clear days. There are also misty mornings and even days when the mist covers the area for a whole day. These days make for beautiful photos.
This photos was taken by Mister Explores – Lifestyle Videographer and shows a fine line of mist hanging in the air. It also shows the gracious Goukou River and the farming areas.
Beautiful Stilbaai – beautiful photo!

MORRIS POINT, STILBAAI

Morris Point, Stilbaai
Just look at this beautiful photo of Morris Point. The photo was taken and posted by The Atlantic Drone.
Did you know that you can walk from the jetti (close to the corner of Versveld Street and Main Road West) on a paved walkway along the Goukou River all the way to the area of the outdoor gym (just off Waterkant Street opposite the river mouth)? There you can get onto the beach towards the harbour (walk on the beach at low-tide or next to the beach in Skuitpad Road) and then you can walk all the way next to the ocean around Morris Point. The green area on the photo is Skulpiesbaai Nature Reserve.
If you want, you can then walk along the coast all the way to Jongensfontein (between 9 and 10 kilometres) and then even to the Blombosch Nature Reserve (quite a challenging hike of about 16 kilometres)!
It is beautiful and quite an adventure…

SPECTACULAR VIEWS

There are so many places in Stilbaai with spectacular views!
Like this one from a garden that is maintained by private residents in Stilbaai Heights overlooking the Goukou River..
Beautiful views – another reason why we think Stilbaai should be the Kwêla ‘Dorp van die Jaar’.
(Voting for ‘Town of the Year’ takes place from 26 to 31 May. Please vote then by sms’ing the word STILBAAI to 33157. Up to 30 sms’s per phone number allowed at R1.50/sms.)

  • Minder as 500 000 inwoners het
  • Nie ’n streekswenner in die laaste twee jaar was (2017: Mosselbaai, Margate, Nespruit/Mbombela, Hoopstad, Tzaneen, Vanderbijlpark, Barkley-Oos, Van Zylsrus, Gobabis. 2018: Fochville, Wakkerstroom, Jeffreysbaai, Montagu, Upington, Mariental, Parys, St. Lucia).

FLAMINGOS SPOTTED IN STILBAAI

WOW! Look what blogger Eveline Dietz spotted in Stilbaai during February – flamingos!
“Flamingos outside Bosbokduin in the Indian Ocean,” she posted on Instagram. (The Bosbokduin area overlooks the ancient fish traps at Skulpiesbaai on the one side and the ocean and coastline towards Jongensfontein about 8 kilometres away to the west.)
Well spotted, Eveline and thank you for capturing this and posting it!
