Summer is on its way and so is the December holiday season and in Stilbaai.
In Stilbaai, the holiday season means thousands of visitors from all over the country who just want to relax and enjoy the sunshine, the beaches and spending time with family and friends.
This is also the perfect place and time to catch up on some outdoor exercising and training. It is especially the joggers who have a wide variety of routes and terrain – from beach running, trail running and road running, be it tar or gravel road.
A regular visitor to Stilbaai, is Pretoria business woman, Jani du Toit, who is so excited about her upcoming holiday in Stilbaai that she blogged about it. She is especially looking forward to run (again) in Stilbaai and shared her experiences as well as her favourite routes in her story.
She writes: “Recent years I’ve started to run here, from the house where we live all the way down to the harbor. it’s truly magnificent. The weather is usually overcast in the mornings making it a perfect condition to go for a run early in the morning. Later in the day the sun comes out, and if the wind dies down, you’ll have a perfect day on the beach.
The wonderful thing for me about going on holiday here is that my husband gets too sleep in, as long as he wants, and I get to just go and run, no questions asked. We get to both relax in the way we prefer. But if we want to meet up with friends later we can, coz their also on holiday there!”
Some of her running routes include running to the main beach (Lappiesbaai) and back to the house (12.7km); running to Jongensfontein (one-way) – depending on where you run from, it is at least 10km while her ‘standard’ routes include the ‘harbour route’ (7.9km); the ‘lagoon run’ of about 10.4km and the Skulpiesbaai run of just under 8km.

EXERCISING DURING DECEMBER IN STILBAAI
Jogging, walking or hiking, cycling, swimming and various forms of water sport are just some of the ways one can have fun and stay fit and healthy during the December holiday season in Stilbaai. There is now also a brand new outdoor gymnasium situated just off Waterkant Street across the river mouth in Stilbaai West where exercising can be done with the best view possible while there is a skateboard park for skateboarders and BMX ridersat the rugby fields.

Make sure not to miss the Stilbaai Beach Mile on 23 December at Lappiesbaai beach (starts at 8:00) as well as the most enjoyable annual NSRI 10km run/walk on 31 December that will again take place from the NSRI Station at the harbour.
