Time flies when you are having fun and we can almost not believe that the first five weeks of 2016 are already something of the past!
Stilbaai has returned to being ‘normal’ again after a great holiday season where visitors from all over the world have enjoyed everything the town; the sea and river as well as the beautiful nature and surroundings had to offer.
Things are still happening, however, and early in the new year, Louise Christie took the lead in the ‘Water on the Move’ Project where 4 500 litres of water as well as food for animals were donated and transported to the farms and people in need in the rest of the country. It was awesome to see how the Stilbaai people and businesses joined in this great effort!
In the meantime confirmation was received that the upgrading of the R305 between the N2 and Stilbaai will start in March.
If we look at the calendar, it seems that all the ‘normal’ activities are there AND more – like the Valentine’s Dance (Saturday, 13 February) organised by the local SAPS and the regular Jagersbosch Kitchen selling great food and goodies at The Waenhuis (5 March). Music lovers can also look forward to two upcoming performances – the Karlsruhe Concert Duo (piano and cello) on February 20th as well as the Harmonic Brass Quintet that will visit Stilbaai on March 16.
From 16 to 18 February, the 3-Day Artist Retreat will take place at the Botterkloof Resort (more information to follow) while people are invited to donate blood on February 25th at the Community Hall.
Visitors and locals can also look forward to the first Craft Beer and Wine Festival that will take place at the Community Hall on March 21st and 22nd.
The ‘new’ Tuin-Op-Die-Brak will be officially opened on March 19 with lots of things happening on Saturday (March 26th) – the Amana Properties Stilbaai Mountain Bike Challenge will take place from Julie-se-Baai; Huis Stilbaai will host their annual ‘basaar‘ (be ready for LOTS of great food and things to buy!) and the art and craft market will again take place at Jongensfontein during the morning.
There will be two long weekends in March as Monday (March 21st); Friday (March 25th) and the following Monday (March 28th) are public holidays. So, with the school holidays coming up and the weather at Stilbaai still being great and lots of activities – you always just relax as well! – we are looking forward to the first quarter of 2016!
